Website Design & Development for Kalispel Tribe of Indians

The Kalispel Tribe of Indians approached us asking to develop a new website for kalispeltribe.com, including its subpages and vanity URLs.

The main goal was to modernize the existing site, create a better user experience, and organize the various types of content. This redesign would build a consistent look throughout the site utilizing the newly developed theme. They requested our team to build the site within the Tribe’s newly created Azure environment.

Design

The Tribe wanted their new website layout to closely mirror the current site as much as possible. They wanted the site to reflect their brand’s themes, color, fonts, and other style elements. They challenged us to deliver an updated look and improved user experience by building one theme for nine websites. We created several block options for use in various layouts throughout the site updates.

Development

The Kalispel Tribe site network involved a lot of firsts for us. It was the first site we built with Craft CMS and the first site we were deploying to an Azure app service environment. We began by working in a development environment that replicated the Tribe’s production setup. We developed a mechanism for deploying Craft CMS as a containerized app that connected to Azure block storage for user-managed media files.

Within Craft, we created a rich editing experience with several components that could be combined to create various unique page layouts throughout the site. Our goal was to make the user experience of editing the site as straightforward as possible, while also empowering the Tribe to create beautiful and functional pages that suited the specific needs of any content.
